Located in southwestern Ontario about 200 km from Toronto, London had a population of 422,324 according to the 2021 Canadian census, is situated at the confluence of the Thames River and North Thames River. Upper Canada's first lieutenant governor, John Graves Simcoe, proposed the London area for the capital city of Upper Canada, and named the city in 1793.

The first European settlements began in the early 1800s, and the city incorporated in 1855. Today, London has become a major regional centre of healthcare and education, with three major hospitals, and two major post-secondary institutions, Western University and Fanshawe College. In addition to medical and educational employment, the city is strong in manufacturing, financial services, and information technology.

Located on the primary Quebec-Windsor transportation corridor, London is readily accessible, and has a vibrant arts and entertainment community.
